The Summary
of Cleopatra of Macedonia
King Philip of Macedonia (359-336) and Queen Olympias was married then had a
daughter named Cleopatra.
King Philip defeated the Greeks; in 337 then he married a woman named Cleopatra
the daughter of Macedonian aristocrat named Attalus. The marriage created tension
within the royalty family
This condition made Olympias went into voluntary exile,
staying in her brother place called the Molossian court. However, Philip
decided to isolate Olympias by marrying princess Cleopatra to Alexander of
Molossis (October 336).
The marriage ceremony was a disaster because Philip was
assassinated. So, prince Alexander of Macedonia became a king. Then Olympias
could return home, and Philip's wife was forced to suicide. Alexander of
Molossis and his new queen Cleopatra left Macedonia and settled in the Western
Kingdom.
In 334, Alexander of Macedonia set out to conquer the Achaemenid empire. At the same time, Alexander of Macedonia intervened in the
west. But he killed in 331. Because of it Cleopatra, with Alexander of
Molossian, returned to Molossis. In molossian Alexander and Cleopatra had bad
problem, so Cleopatra went to the capital of Macedonia.
On 11 June 323, Alexander died in Babylon. His half-brother Philip Arridaeus succeeded him. Therefore, a regent was appointed Perdiccas in the Autumn, So, the Athenians expelled the Macedonians from
their town. This is way hoped to prevent an invasion of Greece by Antipater.
At the same time, Cleopatra sent a letter to satrap of Hellespontine Phrygia by Perdiccas. She wrote that if he
came to Pella, she would marry him. After that, Cleopatra sent a letter
again, to Sardes in Lydia.
This letter had sent for Philip
Arridaeus.
Cleopatra, stayed in
Sardes, and remained unmarried. Generals would sooner start a war than accept that
Cleopatra found a husband. After the death of Antipater, Antigonus
Monophthalmus was the most powerful general. He ordered that Cleopatra was to
stay under house arrest. In this way, she spent ten years in Sardes.
In 308, Ptolemy of Egypt visited the area of the Aegean Sea.
Cleopatra knew him well. Ptolemy had grown up in the palace of Philip. She
tried to escape from Sardes and join the friend of her youth. However, she was
caught, brought back to Sardes, and murdered.
Reflection
This article tells about what Cleopatra
do to reach her ambition. She married with man who has dominate and rid their
mind. May be what Cleopatra do is coming by what her father did, when king
Philip was life, he defeated many place then married with woman who has
dominate in that place. In my opinion Cleopatra is clever woman because she had
strategic in political, although her strategic is disgusting. About this
article I think this article is very interesting because, this article tell
about a woman who very famous. Related with real life, this article has a moral
value, something we get is come from what we did.
